New AST Certification for Environmental Professionals

The highly respected industry standards organization, ASTM International, has just developed an Environmental Professional (EP) certification program for conducting Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).

What will the Certification Process Do?

The ASTM EP certification is designed to certify and prepare EPs with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully conduct ESAs. It will require EPs to demonstrate their understanding in the ASTM E1527 Standard with associated regulatory background, and well as documenting and delivering high quality ESA Reports.

So what can you expect?

This certification will only affect the professionals who perform the environmental site assessments.  However, this new development improves the standards of the EPs conducting your Phase I and Phase II assessments. Meaning they will provide you with the highest quality of environmental services. As of now the certification is not a requirement to conduct ESAs; however this may change in the future.

Certification Requirements

ASTM International requires EPs to meet the following two requirements:

  1. Verification of associated education and experience.
  2. To pass an ASTM written certification examination.

Once the certification has been received the EP will be required to be recertified every five years.
