November Book Suggestions

As the year winds down, it’s the perfect time to grab a great book and dive in! Here are some of our recommendations to inspire, inform, and entertain you. Grab a cozy spot, a warm drink, and happy reading!

  • Liar’s Poker by Michael Lewis – Wall Street in the 80s through the eyes of a bond salesman.  I love Lewis’ comedic voice in these books.  Even as a Geologist, I find the book and story very entertaining.
  • The Prize by Daniel Yergin – A story of the global oil industry, power, and money.  The book is a monster at nearly 780 pages, but it’s a real page turner and he does a great job weaving the history all together.
  • When Genius Failed by Roger Lowenstein – The rise and fall of Long-Term Capital Management.  Interesting read, pretty much nobody knows what the stock market is going to do, not even the most complicated and advanced scientific models.
  • Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman – The psychology behind decision-making processes.  This book was a little too academic for me, but the summary at the end of every chapter was excellent.
  • Live Loudly & Living Life Loudly by Victoria Porter Cramer – Insightful and powerful, this one encourages us to live with intention.  Victoria is an amazing person.  I highly recommend her inspiring books.
  • Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson – This book was written by the great biographer Isaacson, who does not bring in any the the most recent political commentary Musk is known for, he sticks to the story of Musk building the businesses of Tesla and SpaceX.
